2019 End of Season Awards
A few words from David Simmons at the end of season awards:
Initially thank you to Gareth and Charlotte and Michael Page for hosting tonight and also for ensuring we have some trophies to give out, your support of our group is very much appreciated.
I’d also like to say thank you to everyone here and in the group who has supported our races and socials this year, as well as those who let me know what races their running (sometimes in advance!) and their results.
Our group has grown again this year and the mailing list now stand at 167 people. Most new members seem to find me by word of mouth, so thank you again to everyone who mentions us to runners in our industry.
I don’t keep track of who attends the socials, but in terms of races we had:
28 of our group ran at least 1 race in our series; and
16 ran at least 2 races; and
Our most popular race was Race the Train where 11 of us ran, with the two 10k races (Poynton and Salford) both attracting 10 which was more than any of the three parkruns.
Not a bad turn out, but it would be great to try and get more along next year.
With that in mind, I’ll be pulling together the structure and races for next year’s championship, so any ideas that might increase our numbers are welcome.
However, having looked at the championship tables this year, then my idea of age grading our results has been binned – albeit it would have helped me!
A couple of comments on our race series this year:
Well done to Byron who won the Sale Water Parkrun and the Heaton Park Parkrun when we were at them, along with winning the V45 category at Race the Train.
Well done to Charlie who won the V50 category at Race the Train.
As for the results, for the individual championship:
Third place was David Chambers on 88 points from his 5 races
Second place was Charlie Batho on 96 points; and
The winner was Byron Edward with a maximum score of 100 points
I ran 7 of the 8 races and still only totalled 95 points, so well done to Charlie and Byron on two exceptional scores.
For the team championship:
Third place was imaginatively titled M24/M25 (Adam and myself) on 109 points
Second place was Run on the Bank (Byron and Jill) on 134 points; and
The winner was Lethargic Hare (Charlie and Gareth) with 149 points
That wraps things up on the trophy front, thank you again to Gareth and Charlotte and Michael Page for tonight and enjoy the food and drink!
