2017 Championship - Race 1 - Stamford Park Parkrun
Being an accountant I’d thought I’d play to my strengths and do the race report by numbers. Here goes…….
There were 25 NWFPAC runners taking part in the 1st of 8 races in the 2017 Championship. The venue was Stamford Park for the 91st running of this Parkrun. 1 of 2 Parkrun’s in this year’s race calendar. The distance was 5k, as standard for Parkrun’s. On the day there was a field of 99, their 4th highest turnout. It is incredible that we represented 25% of the field – many thanks to David for all he does in bringing this group together.
Now for the top 10 countdown:
10 is for 10 out of 10, the amount of effort required to get up the long uphill drag to the turning point. A short sharp climb, flattening out, before gently continuing uphill.
9 is for the 9 runners who went passed me after I set off a bit too fast with the tactic of getting through the first large puddle early as I didn’t have my armbands on. I went through in 4th and still had my face covered in mud. It must have got very messy further down the field.
8 is for the number of NWFPAC runners who finished in the top 10, incredible result!
7 is for the 7 marshal points. The race was very well organised and great, much needed, encouragement from all the marshals. Thanks all!
6 is for the number of Deloitte runners in the field – the most represented company (not that I’m competitive J).
5 is for the 5 female NWFPAC runners taking part. Superb running by all, especially Charlotte and Helen who finished 2nd and 3rd in the ladies race.
4 is for the 4th February, the race date.
3 is for 3 degrees, the temperature on my dashboard as I de-iced the car to set off over to Stalybridge. The cold weather meant lots wrapped up in long sleeves, hats and gloves. I opted for the standard shorts and t-shirt and was regretting it after the first kilometre. Very cold!!
2 is for the number of laps around the North lake we had to complete – what a lovely course!
1 is for 1st place in the overall race for Steven Henderson in a time of 18:09, over 1 minute quicker than last time he ran this Parkrun. Excellent running!
